Indian Ocean Squid Holds Flat, But Fujian Exports Slide 28% YoY

Market Watch | Fujian Squid Export Update — through Aug 2026

Indian Ocean squid prices have held steady in recent weeks with no significant movement in either direction. In Fujian, end-market demand remains persistently weak; trading activity is thin, shipments are struggling to gain volume, and with the Golden Week break now underway (Oct 1–7), transaction volumes remain at seasonal lows.

But beneath the flat price line, Fujian’s export volumes tell a markedly weaker story — down 28% YoY through August.

Raw-material leads the contraction, reflecting softer upstream buying from overseas processors and re-exporters.

🧭 What’s Driving It

• Raw flat, processed up (cooked/rings only) — Indian Ocean raw squid steady; raw-block quotes unchanged.

• Export rebate cut — lower VAT rebate on processed squid items lifts Fujian ex-works cost; processed-line quotes revised up accordingly.

• Demand soft on slow turnover — warehouses moving slowly, downstream restocking light.

• Raw blocks quoted steady; cooked specs quoted at new rebate-adjusted rate.
